Sheila Gill

Registered Psychotherapist (CRPO)

About me…

My name is Sheila Gill (she/her), and I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). I was born and raised in the prairies and moved to Toronto in 1997 to attend the University of Toronto. Since then, my life partner and I have raised two sons in an intergenerational home shared with their grandparent.

Both personally and professionally, my journey has been shaped by a deep search for creative and compassionate ways to respond to the challenges we face as human beings. This path ultimately led me to the field of mental health, where I am committed to supporting others in their healing and growth. I opened my private practice in 2017.

with your one wild and precious life?

My children have been my greatest teachers. The parenting journey continues to shape how I support clients who are also learning how to show up as “good enough” parents in their children’s lives. As an adoptee, I bring attention to the often-marginalized experiences and unique dilemmas faced by this population.

I warmly welcome queer individuals and couples into my practice as a queer ally and advocate. I am also committed to working creatively and accessibly with neurodivergent clients, sometimes drawing on my own lived experience as a woman with late-identified ADHD.

About how I work…

As a relational therapist, I aim to create space for people to explore themselves and their relationships in new and healing ways. My approach is integrative and flexible, drawing on contemporary psychoanalytic thought, neuroscience, attachment and embodiment research, as well as decades of experience with Eastern mind-body practices such as meditation and movement. Above all, I listen closely and work collaboratively with you—striving to understand your perspective and allowing your values and direction to guide our work together.

Earlier in my career, I studied post-colonial theory and worked to challenge race-based oppression in Canada. That background still shapes how I think today—especially in how I understand the bigger social and historical forces that affect people’s lives. In therapy, I aim to create space where we can explore not just personal struggles, but also the larger systems and intergenerational stories that shape them. Clients often find that their own histories—and the histories they’ve inherited—hold important clues for healing and growth.

Sunset Tree

“People are just as wonderful as sunsets if I can let them be… When I look at a sunset, I don’t find myself saying, ‘Soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner’… I don’t try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.”
–Carl Rogers
